There are a variety of working holiday job vacancies available within each resort. Some skilled positions will require previous experience and in some cases qualifications, whilst for others no direct experience is necessary.
The standard hourly rate for our gap year positions is NZ$15 per hour.
You’ll be the first point of contact for guests in the mountain hotels. A typical day would involve checking guests in and out of their rooms and accommodating customers whenever they have a special request.
Hotel guest services work hard to ensure customers have everything that they need, whether that is extra towels, room service, or a dinner recommendation for the evening. You’ll be responsible for solving any situations that arise, and ensuring that customers have the best possible stay!
As a fine dining waiter/waitress your job is to ensure that guests have a quality dining experience by providing them with the best possible customer service. Your role will include taking meal orders, serving food and drinks, and waiting and clearing tables in a timely manner.
If you love working with people and have a real zest for life, then server life is for you. Not only could you be serving food, working on the bar, taking payments and keeping the restaurants and cafes clean and tidy, you’ll be representing the ski resort, providing excellent customer service and showcasing your great communication skills. If you’ve got experience in hospitality, or love working in an environment with lots of guest interaction then you’ll excel in this role.
As a cocktail maker, you play a very important role in the restaurant. You’ll be preparing and serving drinks to customers whilst ensuring all of your guest interactions are positive and friendly. You’ll need to be able to mix and match ingredients, create drinks based on customer orders, and ensure that your guests have an all round great experience at the bar.
Do you have maintenance or gardening experience? Resorts are looking for staff who can carry out maintenance and gardening duties around the grounds of the hotel. You should have experience in digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, planting and not need much supervision.
You’ll be responsible for keeping the hotel in top condition, by dusting, vacuuming, surface cleaning, bathroom cleaning and ensuring all assigned areas are neat and tidy. Guests have come to expect the best and you’ll be ready to provide it!
Take your kitchen career to new heights, literally, in the mountain kitchens! You should be proactive and enthusiastic, ready for a challenge and able to handle kitchen and production areas. You’ll be working closely with the Head Chef, managing kitchen staff and ensuring everyone is on track. You’re second in command so in case the Head Chef is absent, you’ll be required to step up and take charge of the kitchen operations.
As a line cook you’ll be responsible for food preparation every day, ensuring that you produce the best products whilst sticking to all of the healthy and safety guidelines. It’s a tough job, but the environment is supportive and friendly and you’ll get the chance to improve your culinary skills, work with professional Head and Senior chefs from all over the world and make lifelong friends!
