Whakapapa Ski Area on the north-western slopes of Mt Ruapehu is New Zealand's largest ski area, with more than 65 trails across 1050 hectares. Their facilities include 3 cafes, a snow school, hire centre and premier learner area, Happy Valley. They have a dedicated freestyle terrain park and offer skiing and riding for all levels of ability from beginner to advanced.
Turoa Ski Area on the south-western slopes of Mt Ruapehu has Australasia's longest vertical descent and New Zealand's highest lift - The "Highnoon Express". Turoa Ski Area is located on the south-western slopes of Mt Ruapehu and offers a massive 722m of vertical descent on New Zealand’s highest chairlift - the High Noon Express. On mountain facilities include 3 cafes and a bar, a hire centre, snow school and crèche. They offer varied terrain from Beginner to Advanced as well as natural half pipes, chutes and plenty of backcountry area.
